My fears about public speaking dissipated in the cozy and exciting atmosphere thanks to Marko’s welcoming energy and compelling monthly themes. Even the most timid performers lights up when they take the stage - and you should too!”

Meet Your Guide, Marko

When I started a Youtube travel show with my brother I was camera-shy, didn’t trust my voice, and had no idea how to create a good hook or plotline. Over 100 videos later, the channel is one of the most trusted travel shows on YouTube with more than 1.2M+ subscribers worldwide.

But in 2020, I was forced to pivot my travel career. Once again I had a vision, this time it was to write a book and curate storytelling events, but little experience. Fast forward, I moved to CDMX, and started my storytelling open mic ‘Cuentame’ and a newsletter to promote my book with over 3k monthly readers.

I created “The Art of Storytelling” to share the secret sauce that allows me to compel so many people with my words: a culturally rich environment and a supportive creative community. Because with the right people, in the right place and the right guidance, writer’s block disappears and your creative mind unlocks.

It’s pretty f*cking cool. I’d love for you to join us.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. This trip is aimed at all levels of experience. Previous experience is a bonus, but the workshops and exercises included in the program are suitable for beginners to advanced storytellers.

  • Yes. You will be staying in one of the safest neighborhoods in the city. When leaving this area, we will have private transportation and / or local guides.

  • Both! Each day will start off with a block of writing and creative time before setting out to explore the city’s best cultural attractions and restaurants. Each afternoon we will have time to share stories inspired by the places we visit to practice building confidence in front of a live crowd. The goal is to provide a balance of memorable activities and practical storytelling craft.

  • Participants must be over 18 years old to join. While there is no age limit, we recommend being physically fit enough to walk around at altitude. Remember, Mexico City is higher than Denver! (7,349ft / 2240m).

  • We will do our best to accommodate your diet through special meals and / or alternative options.

Please let us know if you have allergies or dietary restrictions within your application.

  • Book your own flights to arrive in Mexico City on the 1st. We recommend arriving in the early afternoon so that you can join us for the welcome dinner with the other participants. Taxis from the airport cost less than $15 and bring you straight to the hotel. You pay in advance at a kiosk and are directed to a safe, secure taxi with a fixed price. Simple.

  • The weather in Mexico City is very mild all year round. October, is the tail end of the rainy season in CDMX. Keep in mind that Mexico is 7,349 ft / 2240 meters above sea level, so it can get chilly at night. Always check the weather forecast right before packing, but keep in mind the following rules of thumb:

Dress in layers. Temperatures can vary during the day. It’s usually cooler in the morning, gets hot around mid-day, may rain around sunset, and can be windy at night.

Wear waterproof shoes that are comfortable for walking. A soft-soled pair of boots are ideal. And remember, you can get them polished everywhere for $2 so leather footwear is a plus.

Don’t pack shorts - locals never wear them and you will stick out.

Like New York or Berlin, it’s common to wear a lot of black.

  • Both the US and Mexico have declared the end of the COVID emergency. Take precautions as you see fit, but you are not required to wear a mask for this trip. Instead, consider travel insurance (see below).

  • It’s always a good idea to take out a travel insurance policy before your trip. I recommend SafetyWing to get coverage for larger emergencies. For smaller issues (like allergies or an upset stomach) pharmacies are inexpensive and quite accessible. They often have a doctor on hand to write out perscriptions.

  • Cancellations made before August 31st will receive a 50% refund. . Cancellations after September 1st are not eligible for a refund. I recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover any unforeseen emergencies that may result in the last minute cancellation of your trip.

  • Yes. If you want to stay later we can arrange additional nights at the hotel, plus bonus activities. Send Marko an email for more information.

  • You will have free time most evenings to explore the city at your leisure. Marko will make recommendations for taco spots, cantinas, and other cultural activities worth checking out.

  • The payment can be split into thirds. The first ⅓ is paid when you sign up. The second ⅓ is due August 1st. The final ⅓ is due September 1st. Payments made after the above dates are responsible for all payments due up to that date. For example, someone signing up on August 15th would be responsible for ⅔ of the payment upon signup, and the final ⅓ on September 1st. Signups after September 1st will require payment in full.
