Betrayal

On 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟯𝗿𝗱, we are sharing stories about one of the most painful and powerful human experiences - 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗹.

𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗹 comes in many forms. We can be betrayed by others, or we can be the one who betrays. Often, we betray ourselves.

Betrayal elicits powerful emotions. Anger, hatred, a desire for justice - maybe even for our pain to be inflicted on others. But many tales warn us of the dangers of revenge.

Betrayal is a useful tool from a storytelling perspective, because 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘮. The best stories are when the hero dips into being both the victim and the perpetrator.

This month, I encourage you to dig deeper and bring stories about when we have been betrayed - and betrayed others - to 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.
